Grifters and The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s adoption of The Odyssey is grifters new punching bag after hype for superhero films died down when Disney shot themselves in the foot after the end of Infinity Saga. And if you think me relying on someone’s hour long video review of a show was bad, try making a fuss over a couple of trailers.

So what is it that they’re whining about now? Plot, producti- Casting. It’s always casting. Specifically as it relates to colour of one’s skin. Let’s be real. Pretty big red flag that they’re dissing a movie that isn’t freakin’ out yet. Obviously, this is about the meta.

It wasn’t easy to see, at first, because phase 4 of the MCU was tangibly bad. Disney+ shows shoulda been movies and vice versa. Not to mention Quantumania and Love & Thunder were a CGI mess. The latter of which had a story that bordered on becoming outright offensive. Even my mom couldn’t stand Love & Thunder. And none of it wound up mattering in the end because the bad guy they got to play Kang turned out to be an actual IRL bad guy and Disney fired him. While that was the right call, it had the unfortunate side effect of meaning that phase 4’s build up was fucking nothing. But I digress.

Problem for these Grifters is that Nolan isn’t exactly low-hanging fruit compared to Gunn. His take on Batman is what inspired Man of Steal. The version of Superman these Grifters foam at the mouth over. Do they not realize they’re biting off the hands that feed them?

But what many people fail to realize is that many people were illiterate in ancient times. Since, ya’ know, printing press wouldn’t be invented for another couple centuries. So the Odyssey had to be performed for the common folk. So if anything Nolan’s take is probably just accurate as whatever the ancient saw, if not more so.
